Dear POGI golfers,
As my term as POGI president came to an end, I look back on the past 2 years and reflect on the club’s collective accomplishments during some of the most difficult times, not only for our game, but for most humanity.
Our officers and members rose up to the challenge of organizing and participating in tournaments when most of us were living in fear of COVID, of short supply of hand sanitizers, masks and toilet paper. 2020 marked a year of tremendous uncertainty, disbelief and political upheaval. Despite the negative sentiments and reduced membership, we were able to put together a competitive season to enjoy the game and each other’s company to provide respite from the stress brought about by the pandemic. With renewed promise, 2021 began with advent of COVID vaccine coupled with short and mild winter. Our golfing calendar burst with pent up energy we have never seen in several years. We not only have a complete line up of 4 majors, Ryder Cup and Mini-tour, but also ended the season with a 5-round golf get-away in Ocean city.
In retrospect, I feel there was a lot to be grateful in the last 2 years. In no small terms, we have all come out of the worst part of the pandemic healthy, gainfully employed, and even better, voluntarily given up employment for retirement! Congratulations to our recent retirees: Jimbo and Bon
Personally, I want to thank all of you for giving me your support (and some of you, strokes) during my term. They may have been the lowest 2 years in POGI membership numbers, but, from what I can remember, it did not detract much from the enjoyment of the game nor the time to get to know our friends better. Special thanks goes to the executive committee for all the hard work that goes into the organization of the golf tournaments. Without them, we would all be too busy looking at Golfnow to book our tee times.
I am happy to turn over the leadership to Dino del Rosario who exemplifies the maxim that age is just a number. One of the most avid fans of our game, he will bring new exuberance to the club in the next 2 years. I am excited and looking forward to the new season and the year-end to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our club
More power to all. See you on the fairways!
Best,Manny Domantay
