Dear POGI golfers,
Many of us will look back to the 2020 COVID pandemic to mark as a watershed in the history of human tragedy - almost 3 million lives lost and counting. After much suffering, however, we now appear to be on the cusp of coming out of the other side.
As we open our 2021 Golf season, I encourage everyone to join me in counting and giving thanks to all our blessings: our continued good health, our loving families, our enduring means of paying our bills, our tolerant friends, and our common love of the game which keeps us close and honest.
It’s hard to imagine that a year now has passed since you have given me the honor of standing at the helm of this fun-loving group of gentlemen. As I start the second half of my term, I look forward to working with our executive committee to bring all of us a great season of tournaments and casual games.
As a reminder, no single cent of your membership dues goes to the officers of the club. The time and tireless effort devoted by these individuals to bring us a full tournament schedule are derived from their love of the game and fellow golfers. Let’s take some time, in one of the games this year, to acknowledge that by a pat on the back or, maybe, a 3-foot gimme.
As an opener, I’d like to thank Mario (PPC), Ralph (Memorial), Jimbo (Open), Bong (Invitational) for organizing the majors, Jess for collecting the dues, Nes for maintaining our website, and Joey for getting us a much-needed official uniform.
Keep safe. Enjoy your practice rounds leading up to the PPC. Work hard to earn us much brownie points from the bosses.
